Police Investigate Series Of Home Break-Ins

Video: Police Investigate Potential Links To Other Robberies

WILTON, N.H. -- Police investigating a series of burglaries in two New Hampshire towns said Wednesday that they have arrested a man responsible for at least two of them.

Wilton police said that over a month, thousands of dollars of personal belongings were taken from homes on three streets near the center of town. Some of the break-ins happened during the day, while others happened at night while residents slept inside, police said.

"He was taking prescription medication or anything of value -- video game equipment, money or basically anything that could be resold or used easily," Chief Brent Hautanen said.

Shawn Chapdelaine, 20, was charged with two counts of burglary, but Wilton police said additional charges will be filed.

"We have received some information from a local business where he had turned in some items that were suspicious," Hautanen said. "We then followed that lead and tracked down property he sold at another area business ... and linked it to him."

Wilton police said that they have recovered about 60 to 70 percent of the items reported stolen. Chapdelaine was ordered held on $20,000 bail.

Police in nearby Lyndeborough said they are working with Wilton authorities on two home burglaries that happened in their town. In one case, someone entered a home on Perham Corner Road and stole a variety of health foods that included organic milk and low-fat yogurt.

"Well, we have reason to believe the suspect or suspects were homeless and camping in the area and were taking food stuffs from the refrigerator and pantry areas," Patrolman Robert Dolinak said.

Police said two diamond rings and a digital camera were taken in the burglaries. No one has been charged in those cases, and police are still investigating.
