WEYMOUTH - Detectives interrupted a suspected drug deal and arrested two men on cocaine charges, police said.
Drug unit detectives patrolling in an unmarked car spotted a yellow Ford Windstar minivan on Middle Street shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday and began following it.
Police in Weymouth, Hingham and Hull had suspected for some time that the van was being used to deliver cocaine, Detective Lt. George Greenwood said.
It was usually driven by an older man with a younger passenger, he said.
Detectives followed the van to 199 Middle St., where a known drug offender got in, Greenwood said.
Suspecting a drug transaction had taken place, police approached the van to arrest the individuals and saw the the driver, Nelson E. Garcia, 53, of Malden swallow several bags of cocaine, Greenwood said.
Garcia later admitted to swallowing 10 bags of cocaine and was taken to South Shore Hospital, where police hoped to recover them, Greenwood said.
Garcia and his passenger, Havier Garcia, 25, of Roslindale, were both arrested and charged with cocaine distribution, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, violating the drug laws near a school or playground and conspiracy.
The third man admitted to buying four bags of cocaine, Greenwood said. He will be charged at a later date with cocaine possession.
Braintree police arrested Nelson Garcia in September on a charge of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
