Please only answer if you own one or have used one ........ Having a custom, short barrel rifle built. I wasn't fortunate enough to play with AimPoints or EOTechs before I exited the military. Just looking for some feedback on your likes dislikes. Please keep in mind that this will be for close quarter use. I am having a long barrel built too and will be shopping for for THOSE optics after I get the short one set up. Thanks for your input guys....... The EOTech I was looking at was the 552.

i had an aimpoint in the army, then when i went navy I got an EOTech. both of which i tested in more then a few combat zones.... i prefer the EOTech.

well i used an aimpoint in 2 wars and used an eotech in 2 others. i think the eotech is a better target aquisition but i do like the aimpoint and the pvs 4 (thats how shot my memory is i can't remember the nomeclature) night vision monocular... i liked hitting 300m "carbon based pop up movering targets" standing in complete darkness

Eotech All The Way!

I own both the Eotech and the Aimpoint and each have their advantages and disadvantages. The Aimpoint's biggest selling point is its battery life...the latest model Aimpoint CompM4 has over 80,000 hours of battery life (about 8 years!); it doesn't even have an off switch! Both the Aimpoint and the Eotech are rugged, waterproof, and with no parallax, easy to use.
For CQB, out to moderate distances (200 yards), I prefer the Eotech. I like the reticle setup better, and I think its easier to acquire quickly with the "both eyes open" methodology of shooting. On the downside, its battery life is much shorter (about 1100 hours in the AA models, about 200 in the N cell models). I own the 552, mounted on my AR with a GGG quick-release setup, and it runs like a champ. The latest model 553 comes with its own integral quick release mount, which is pretty cool.
For longer distances I think the "circle in dot" reticle becomes a bit distracting and I prefer the Aimpoint. Although beyond about 400 yards or so, the dot completely masks most targets. I also like the fact that Aimpoints lend themselves better to killflash covers and dust covers; in a dusty environment, this could certainly be a factor.
The issue is one more of personal taste then real quality...they are both excellent systems. I prefer the Eotech, but consider the Aimpoint to be outstanding as well.
Here's a couple of photos of my Eotech setup:

Thanks guys. For close quarters, EOTech seems to be the way most people suggest going, due to the "two eyes open" operation. I appreciate your input, and your pix KJ. I think I will look into the AimPoint for my long barrel setup. They have some pretty cool versions with assorted magnifications.
No comment huh SOT ? hahahhaaa

any thoughts on the Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T ?
the old eyes aren't getting any better and was thinking red dot with magnification.
the $600 Leupold is a little pricy. did see a fixed 2X red dot at Kittery Trading Post. just don't have allot of range time with these scopes other than a cheap knock off and it wasn't very impressive

I'm gonna go against the grain on this one. I really like the aimpoint stuff, and don't really like the eotech stuff that much. Granted I've only used the aimpoint on people, never used the eotech in combat...
I will say in using the Eotech in my back yard, it's a pretty fast sight and prolly better with little or no training for CQB. Personally I do not like the way the sight looks, it's like lots of little dots to make up the sight and I find that a bit distracting.
As for the Leupold...nice sight...looks good on cool looking guns...prolly wouldn't buy it for this...not bad for longer range shooting.
