I didn't see any responses from my old thread, but I'd figue I'd update this one. Scored well on the exam, high on the list, and first interview has been scheduled. No schedule of a PAT or anything else, just "proper business attire" requested for all day session. Starting with an investigator, so it says.
It appears the "A/B's" goes through the academy like everyone else, just looking from any imput form CO's or other Program Officers about what to expect. Any info would be great(i.e. do CO's get along with PO's?, etc). Thanks in advance...

I was a CPO for a number of years, but have been out for a while now. I am still very close with the guys I worked with so I think the info below is pretty accurate.
CO's and CPO's go to the same academy and receive the same training. Both are uniformed positions but the unis are different. CO's are in a security/security type role only. CPO's, depending on where assigned, will either provide security or Case worker services. At SMCC (level 2/3) and Pondville (Level 3 last I recall) for example, CPO's do it all, security and casework. At this institutions as a front line security staff, you will be assigned to a shift, meaning you may work nights with Monday/Tuesday off. Caseworker COP's are Monday - Friday weekends off. You find case worker cpo's at every institution but at MCI-Ceder Junction they are not front line security staff - case work only. When I was in, CO's were slightly higher paid and had a stronger union. Today, CPO's are slightly higher paid with the stronger union. BOTH positions deal with the inmate population, diddlers, murderers, bank robbers etc... there is risk in both roles. Just because a guy is currently in a level 3 institution doesn't mean he won't turn and clock you just as if he were behind the wall at MCI - Ceder Junction (level 5). This may have changed - only CO's can apply for special units such as SORT and Transportation
As for Do they get along, I got along with everyone I worked with and came across but I recall CO's definetly looked down on CPO's as wannabe CO's...not sure what the deal is today.

I went through the academy in Feb. it was with about 25 CPO's the whole process is tedious. you can find some info in other threads as to the whole process I think I read not long ago in someone's PAT question it was rather detailed and when they say it is an all day affair oh man all day it is very boring but, I survived. the drill instructors were very good but while you're a trainee it pretty much sucks. I went from the academy to basic training Army National Guard. The first day at the CO academy was worse.

They may never admit it, but perhaps the delay is due to the need of respective facilities needing more security staff than treatment. It could be that the 15 CPO's you mentioned earlier will be cut down.The CO's have been short for a long time and understaffed. Security will always take precedent over program and treatment staff as well it should. This coming from a 34 yr vet who spent 7 yrs as A CO and 27 as a CPO I , II, III
