Sour Grapes For D.C. Gun-Rights Grabbers As They Appeal Loss of Gun Ban

You can see it in the happy faces of D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and the head of his Gun Gestapo, Chief Cathy Lanier. They lost their ability to ban the law-abiding folks in Washington D.C. from owning handguns. The days of cops kicking down doors because someone dare keep a handgun for self-defense in this city are over.

Last March, a three judge federal appeals court panel overturned the D.C. handgun ban holding that the 30 year-old prohibition was unconstitutional. Efforts to get the entire appellate court to hear the case en bank failed.

Now time is running out on the stay granted pending appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Rather than roll over, these gun-rights haters have asked the nation’s highest court to declare the Second Amendment as only a right for various government forces to keep and bear arms and not the people. Government always had the right to keep arms without the Second Amendment making that argument absurd.

The last time the Supreme Court spoke about the Second Amendment was in the flawed Miller Case wherein the court held some 70 years ago, that a sawed off shotgun was not a suitable military weapon and not Constitutionaly protected. The justices just did not know that such shotguns were used in trench warfare in virtually every war. Miller disappeared and no lawyer representing him argued on behalf of the defendant before the court in that one-sided case.

The opinion of the D.C. Court of Appeals is well researched and bulletproof. If the Court refuses to hear the case or hears it and rules that the Second Amendment is a right of the people gun laws will fall everywhere they have bans or demand payment for permits and registration involving firearms.

The only gun laws unaffected if the D.C. ruling is upheld will be gun bans for convicted felons, lunatics and incompetents. Let’s win one for Freedom and Liberty!

"Chief" Lanier...another appointed political hack, fellating Mayor Fenty for her position and paycheck.

Cathy Lanier brings expertise in local policing and homeland securityToday, DC Mayor-elect Adrian Fenty announced that he has asked 16-year law enforcement veteran and Metropolitan Police Department Homeland Security Commander Cathy Lanier to serve as the city’s next chief of police.
“Commander Lanier has superbly served the residents of the District of Columbia for nearly two decades, and brings a unique understanding of both the importance of community policing and the expertise in homeland security that the top law enforcement officer of the nation’s capital must possess,” said Fenty about his choice of Lanier.
“I am honored that Mayor-elect Fenty has entrusted me with the safety and security of the citizens of the District of Columbia,” said Commander Lanier. “From the beat level to executive service, I am intimately familiar with the District’s residents, their needs and concerns,” she added, concluding, “I am eager to join a talented, energetic Mayor-elect and his superb team in realizing the promise this city holds.”
Commander Lanier has been with the Metropolitan Police Department for more than 16 years and currently serves as the Commanding Officer of the Office of Homeland Security & Counter-Terrorism. Working out of the Office of the Chief of Police, she has taken the lead role in developing and implementing coordinated counter-terrorism strategies for all units within the department. In this position, she has been responsible for all counter-terrorism operations, including investigations in partnership with the FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force; developing and implementing all field training exercises, as well as conducting risk assessments and critical infrastructure protection of key sites within the nation’s capital.
Prior to her current assignment, Commander Lanier served as the Commanding Officer of the Department’s Special Operations Division (SOD) for four years where she managed members of the Emergency Response Team; Explosive Ordinance Unit; Aviation and Harbor Units; Horse Mounted and Canine Units; Domestic Security Unit; Special Events/Dignitary Protection Branch; and the Department’s Civil Disturbance Units.
During her tenure as the SOD Commander, she established the agency’s initial Homeland Security/Counter-Terrorism Branch and created an agency-wide chemical, biological, radiological response unit known as the Special Threat Action Team.
Commander Lanier spent more than 10 years of her career in the Uniform Patrol Division. As the Commander of the Fourth District she created the Latino Advisory Council that later expanded to become the Latino Liaison Unit. She has also served as the Commanding Officer of the Department's Major Narcotics Branch and Vehicular Homicide Units in the Special Services Bureau.
Lanier has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice studies, from the University of the District of Columbia and a bachelor of science in management from Johns Hopkins University, where she went on to receive her master’s in the same area of study. She also earned a master of arts in homeland security and defense from the Naval Postgraduate School. She has been honored for her law enforcement and homeland security work and holds a Top Secret Clearance with SCI Access.
Commander Lanier is 39 years old and the mother of one son. She comes from a family of public service. Her father retired a Deputy Chief in the Prince George’s County Fire Department and her two brothers, one a captain in the Prince George’s County Fire Department and the other a detective in the Greenbelt City Police Department, are still in public service today. Her mother, now retired and living with the Commander, worked more than 30 years in the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts in Washington, D.C.

It appears she has been on the "fast track" to be a boss...one wonders if she is truly that talented or was promoted due to "beef curtains". I know you and I do not want to assume the worst-case scenario concerning this citizen...but c'mon...something just does not ring true here (and YES, I would have the same reservations if she were a male and the same scenario obtained).

My apologies to the women on this board...I'm just saying what others are thinking...flame away!

You all know my thoughts about chiefs and commandants being political opportunists who will do anything to secure their position of power and more importantly their retirement perks...male or female. An a$$-suck is an ass-suck regardless of gender. That gender may be a factor in this case is not a result of any sexism on my part, but rather on the sexism known as "political Correctness".

Thanks, JAP!

No, no, no DCS... I know I've never been one to shy away from an off-color remark or 2, but I meant 'puss' as sour-puss...
Look at the dejected soul... She's heartbroken over this ruling. And from the highest ranking municipal LE official in DC.
I guess she forgot the part of her oath that included "I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America...."

I know what you meant, Koz, I just couldn't resist! I wonder if she even carries one of those "icky" guns...

I didn't see much in her bio about her time on patrol. Probably just an oversight.

As far as the original topic goes, the 2nd Amendment reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

ahh... o.k.

Back on topic. I heard the NRA isn't scheduling the victory dance yet. There was still some concern that they DID NOT want this particular case to go to the U.S. Supreme Court. I remember reading about this in an NRA-ILA bulletin not long ago. Anybody else shed some light?

BTW-"beef curtains"? What's that got to do with the 2nd Amendment YIKES!
