i might just so i can say i took a test to become a super trooper, unless they were highway patrol? i cant remember

I was thinking about taking it for the experience of taking a Police Exam and to see what came of it. However, I decided that it was not worth the money or 5 hour drive to get there...

yeah, thats true, i wish i woke up in time to take the NYPD one when it was at Umass Boston, for some practice on the civil, but the two tests were very different. anyway im sure there are other tests you can take for practice. Especially since you wont be 21 til 2009 just in time for the supposed MSP exam...SOB.

yeah but i meant taking a test in a test setting, i took that NYPD practice aced it, but my problem was getting to it, then i saw a starting salary of 35k and said forget making it up

35k isnt enough to live anywhere near NYC.

yeah which is why im confused anyone would take that job, seeing as you need to live in one of the 5 borroughs

Not completely accurate. I had a professor who was retired NYPD detective and to recruit for the dept, he would tell us even though the starting pay was low, an officer did not have to live in NY city. In fact he said most officers didn't cause of the cost of living. Which also leads to officers defecting to the surrounding counties because of the lower standards of living and much higher pay.

Suffolk alone has a starting salary in 60K range. Because of the higher pay, therefore the competition to get hired will be higher. So to beat the rush(so to speak), some would get on with the NYPD, live in the surrounding counties for a few years, then as soon as possible, jump ship. As an academy trained officer with a few yrs on the street under his/her belt, they already have a leg up on the guy straight off the street.

The starting salary for NYPD is 25,100 for six months and then 32,700 for six months. It is 35k including differentials and overtime.

As for residency it is one of the five boroughs OR one of the surrounding counties of NYC, Suffolk, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, Nassau, or Putnam.

35 including difs and ot, im confused because u said for 6 months is 25, then 32 for 6, wouldnt that make it 57?

1) You get the equivilent of 25,100 a year (per annum) for 6 mo = $12,550
2) You get the equivilent of 32,700 a year (per annum) for 6 mo = $16,350

That means your first year base salary is ==============> $28,900.00

NYPD says that with differential, average overtime, holiday pay, and uniform allowance the average police officer makes $35,000 their first year.

Is that a little more clear?
