South Carolina Man Dies From Shooting

Milford PD
James Street
MILFORD, Conn. -- A man from
South Carolina told officers that his father shot him in the chest at a Milford hotel overnight, police said.
Milford police responded to the Residence Inn on Rowe Avenue just after 1:16 a.m. on Thursday. Investigators said results of an argument between James Street, 66, of Pacolet, S.C., and his adopted son, Tony Lee Simmons, 37, led to the shooting.
Milford police reported to the state's attorney's office that Street dialed 911 at about 1:15 a.m., saying repeatedly to a dispatcher, "I shot him."
When officers arrived, they said they saw Simmons in the bedroom of a suite at the hotel suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police said he was conscious and talking when police found him.
"The only information I can give you right now is that Mr. Simmons indicated to the officers that his father had shot him in the chest," Milford Police Chief Keith Mello said.
A hotel worker said Street was seen holding a revolver shortly after the 911 call and before police arrived.
Street later told police that his son had a crack cocaine and alcohol problem and that he had returned to the hotel room intoxicated. Police said an argument escalated into a shoving match before the shooting.
