Former Plymouth man won’t fight return to Mass. to face charges

By JULIE JETTE The Patriot Ledger PLYMOUTH - A former Plymouth man who for years has evaded criminal and civil charges for scams he allegedly pulled on nearly 80 victims is behind bars in North Carolina.
The sheriff’s office in Brunswick, N.C., county said it is holding Dennis E. Drummond, 53, in its jail after his arrest Monday on a fugitive warrant from Massachusetts.
Drummond is being held on $200,000 bail and is not fighting his return to Massachusetts for prosecution.
‘‘A couple of our troopers are going to pick him up,’’ said Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter. ‘‘We’re expecting him back early next week.’’
Miliote said Drummond will be held at least until he is arraigned in Massachusetts.
In Bristol County, Drummond faces three charges of larceny over $250 from 2003 and one charge for the same offense in 2005. Also in 2003, he was charged with larceny over $250 on a person older than 60 and larceny over $250 in a single scheme.
He also faces a charge of larceny over $250 in Middlesex County from 2005, along with a misdemeanor fraud charge.
But a civil case brought by former Attorney General Thomas Reilly outlined a far broader scheme: 79 alleged victims from across Massachusetts and Connecticut signed affidavits saying that Drummond stole about $400,000 in a series of real estate schemes.
