BILOXI, Mo. — A standoff at a Biloxi juvenile jail Wednesday night left at least one injured after police quickly restored order.
The incident happened at the juvenile jail not far from City Hall on McElroy Street around 9 p.m. A man who appeared to be a jail guard was taken away in an ambulance after police had quelled the uprising. Whether anyone else was hurt was not known at presstime, as police on the scene provided few details. No one was killed in the incident, police said.
"It has been resolved," said Sgt. Jackie Rhodes, a public information officer for the Biloxi Police Department.
Rhodes said he had few details as investigators were still working late Wednesday night.
Biloxi Police and the Harrison County Sheriff's Department are investigating, Rhodes said. Officers from neighboring agencies, including the Ocean Springs Police Department, responded to the call at the facility, a small brick building, which is surrounded in back by a fence with razor wire. The situation appeared to be under control by 9:15 p.m.
The names of any the juveniles involved in the case will likely not be released, because their identities are protected, police said.
More details are expected to emerge in the case today, as police said they would provide information through news releases that were not completed by presstime. Night supervisors at the police station declined comment.
