HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - A police officer in Holyoke escaped a serious car accident Tuesday with just minor injuries. The accident happened around 4:30 in the afternoon on Route 5 south of the Delaney House. Captain William McCoy was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he apparently passed out, possibly due to dehydration. The vehicle rolled over a number of times, snapping a utility pole in half. Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Captain McCoy from the vehicle. McCoy was taken to Baystate Medical Center and underwent testing, but a dispatcher said he has no broken bones and appears to be in good shape.
