By KAREN GOULART The Patriot Ledger HINGHAM - The Scituate man who was driving the car that hit an 11-year-old boy as he crossed High Street on a bicycle could have his license revoked by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Before the accident, which happened Tuesday afternoon, traffic going east on High Street stopped to let the boy and a friend to cross the road in a crosswalk, witnesses told police.
Henry A. Pasqualucci, 80, driving west, did not stop, and his car struck the boy, witnesses said.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to South Shore Hosptial with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later taken to Children’s Hospital in Boston, where he was treated and released.
Police filed an immediate-threat report with the Registry of Motor Vehicles and cited Pasqualucci for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Lt. Micheal Peraino said.
Peraino said police file an immediate-threat report with the Registry when they consider a driver dangerous to others on the road.
‘‘When we feel the operator is a danger to society and we need that person to be examined, their license needs to be reviewed by the Registry of Motor Vehicles,’’ Peraino said.
Peraino said the filing does not have to do with Pasqualucci’s age. He said police have filed such reports for people in their 30s.
‘‘In this case, we have a kid who was right in the crosswalk, the other side of traffic completely stopped,’’ Peraino said. ‘‘His vision is not impaired; (the boy) didn’t walk out from behind a car. He walked right in front him. That’s why we’re concerned.’’
