Bryan M. James, 34, and Jessica L. Silveira, 26, are wanted on charges related to the abuse of Ms. Silveira's 3-year-old daughter

NEW BEDFORD — A 3-year-old girl suffered human bites to her face and a mutilated ear in what police say was months of abuse at the hands of her mother’s live-in boyfriend.
The boyfriend, Bryan M. James, 34, whose last known address is 83 Newcomb St., is wanted on charges of mayhem and assault and battery on a child, causing substantial bodily injuries
The child’s mother, Jessica L. Silveira, 26, of 83 Newcomb St., is wanted on charges of permitting substantial injuries to a child under 14 and intimidation of a witness.
Police say the girl suffered bites to her face and has lost the upper part of her lip.

In addition, police said, her ear was so badly mutilated that surgery could not restore it to its natural state. The child also suffered human bites on her body.
Children’s Hospital, Boston, felt it was one of the most horrific abuse cases they have seen, according to Capt. Richard M. Spirlet, public information officer for the New Bedford Police Department.
Capt. Spirlet said police believe the boyfriend caused the injuries and the child’s mother tried to conceal them from authorities.
The Juvenile Unit of the New Bedford Police Department was notified on May 17 of the abuse to the child.
Capt. Spirlet said police feel the abuse started sometime in January and continued for several months.
Detective Chris Cotter noticed during his investigation that the mother was keeping information from the state Department of Social Services and other health care workers.
The captain said police feel Ms. Silveira was not truthful about how her daughter received the injuries. Police said they noticed “numerous inconsistencies” in her statements to them.
Police said the mother brought the child into a medical facility and the child was referred to Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Police said both of Ms. Silveira’s children are now in DSS custody.
Police said both suspects have been added to the Massachusetts State Police’s Most Wanted List.
Police are asking anyone with information about this case to contact their sexual assault unit at (508 991-6346 or the anonymous tip line at (508 961-4584.

how the fuck can you stand by when someone is abusing your kid? or any kid for that matter. I would go ballistic and gouge this fucks eyes out if he or anyone else laid a finger on my kids.

Why weren't the kids taken away the FIRST time there was evidence of abuse? If they suspected that the mother was trying to conceal the injuries why didn't they act at that moment?

Mayhem on a THREE year old?! This shitbag and the fat f*ck "mother" should be executed.

Police arrest mother and boyfriend who bit off her 3-year-old girl's ear, lip

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -- Police on Wednesday arrested a man they say bit off the lip and ear of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter in attacks that left her so mutilated doctors could not fully repair the damage.
Bryan James, 34, put up a brief struggle after police stopped his vehicle to arrest him and the child's mother, Jessica Silveria, 26, police said in a statement.
State and local police officers were tipped off that the two fugitives were planning to drive back into New Bedford after their names and photos were posted on the Massachusetts State Police most wanted list, police spokesman Capt. Richard Spirlet said.
The girl suffered human bites to the face in which she lost the upper part of her lip. Her ear was so mutilated that surgery could not return it to its natural state. The child also suffered other human bites on her body, Spirlet said.
"It was malicious, mayhem," Spirlet said.
James has been detained on charges of assault and battery upon a child causing substantial bodily injuries. Silveria is accused of permitting substantial injuries to a child under 14 and intimidation of a witness.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned Thursday in New Bedford, police said.
New Bedford police began investigating in mid-May after the girl was taken to a hospital in Boston. Police believe the biting attacks began in January, and continued until April.
The girl and her brother, aged between 5- and 6-years-old, have been taken into the state Department of Social Services' custody.
