Police/Fire Ratio?

Our town is in the planning process for a $1.5 Billion (yes that's correct, Billion) development on 134 acres of vacant land. It is proposed to include 4.5 million square ft off office space, 6 parking garages, 3 major retail stores, 70 smaller retail stores, 3 major chain restaurants, 3 hotel chains, 1000 condo units, and who knows what else. Currently the town employs 28 sworn Police Officers, 28 Fire Personnel, and 6 Civilian Dispatchers. After dealing with several consulting firms, this department has determined an additonal 4 patrolmen and 4 Civilian Dispatchers (combined police, fire, ems dispatched from police station) should be added to the dept staff. The fire department has determined that 26 personnel should be added to the dept staff, along with another substation located on the site. Also included in the fire dept study is the provision to promote the existing 4 Lieutenants to Captain and promote 4 firefighters to Lieutenant. The town has come to a preliminary agreement with the developer on these figures. Is it me, or do these figures seem a little lopsided?

My Question to you is what is the approximate ratio of staff between Police personnel and Fire personnel in your community? Including all staff members, Including Civilian Dispatchers.

Comparing policing and firefighting is comparing apples and oranges. Different jobs requiring different manpower needs.

I don't necessarily mean to compare the jobs. I don't expect to have the same amount of personnel. I am more or less trying to compare the ratio of police officers to firefighters for each community.

That is Foxboro for you.....the bucket heads always get added in greater numbers....a small fire requires everyone on duty to respond and all at home personnell to respond for coverage. Police we just get to handle a lot more with smaller numbers. in my town we ask for 2 to get added and lucky to get 1, fire asks for 8 and they get them... remember everyone loves a fireman........

Here's how it works, any extra personal you add on will be stuck at this sprawl complex you speak of. EMS should add a 14 hour coverage slot with an extra ambulance just to cover the calls in this complex. At min. your going to need at least 2 extra cops. A bunch of BS.

I think that everything seems good there, except the obvious only 4 more patrol officers. With all that added business there is a going to be more shit heads coming in to go to said establishments.
Think of the details during the construction.$
