BOXBOROUGH - Police are searching for a suspect they say sexually assaulted a woman in her home Sunday.
Around 5:30 p.m., a man wearing a mask and gloves entered a Liberty Square Road home through an unlocked door.
The man, whom police have not been able to identify, attacked the woman and sexually assaulted her, said Detective Robert Romilly Jr.
"The victim was beaten," Romilly said, adding the woman was alone at the time. The detective would not say whether the man threatened the woman with a weapon.
A family member reported the incident to police about 7:30 p.m. A state police crime scene investigation unit and Littleton Police assisted. The woman was treated at Emerson Hospital in Concord.

"I expect she will make a full recovery," the Romilly said.

Police only have a vague description of the suspect. According to police reports, the man, approximately 6 feet tall, was wearing a mask, gloves, jeans and a T-shirt.

"There’s not much for us to go on," Romilly said.

Romilly will try to determine if similar incidents in nearby towns are linked in any way.

While police have investigated a break-in at in a vacant home and attempted break-ins of cars in the area of Liberty Square Road in recent months, no sexual assaults have occurred in recent memory.

"People should be keeping their doors and windows locked," the detective said, adding that residents should call police if they see suspicious vehicles in their neighborhoods.

"Any town can be susceptible to crime," he said. "I don’t think there’s a need for any fear from the residents. But it would be good to be a little more vigilant."
