BROCKTON - Former high school soccer coach Jose Arana of Hull was sentenced to 11 to 17 years in prison on Monday after a jury convicted him forced rape of a child.
Arana was acquitted of two additional counts of forced rape of a child and one count of indecent assault and battery of a child.
On Friday a jury in Brockton Superior Court found him guilty of two counts of indecent assault against a child, a charge of attempted rape and three counts of giving alcohol to minors.
The jury returned to court on Monday after failing to reach a verdict on four of the 13 charges against Arana.
Arana, 44, of Hull, a former Notre Dame Academy soccer coach, was sent to the Plymouth County jail on Friday after Judge Charles Grabau revoked his bail. The judge ruled that Arana was a flight risk because he has relatives outside the country.
One of Arana’s attorneys, Patricia Downey, requested that the verdic ts not be announced until a decision had the judge chose to hear the verdicts the jury had already reached.
Arana was accused of raping a 15-year-old Duxbury girl and her 14-year-old sister at a sleepover at his estranged wife’s home in Pembroke in July 2004.
Arana had been caring for his five children while his wife was vacationing in France.
