SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) Former Springfield Police Chief Paul Fenton died Sunday at the Soldier's Home in Holyoke at the age of 83. Born in Springfield, he graduated from Cathedral High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He joined the Springfield Police force in 1946 and was appointed Chief of Police in 1974. He retired as Chief in 1988. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield followed with burial services at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Chief Paul Fenton leaves his wife Joann of 50 years and three sons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Soldier's Home in Holyoke.
