NEW HAVEN, Conn. --Three people, including a young boy hit by a stray bullet, were wounded in a shooting incident Sunday night in the city's Hill section, police said.
The shootings occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on West and Truman streets. One of the victims apparently ran from the scene and was found about a block away. Police found shell casings in the area.
Police said two of the victims, both men, 18 and 33 years of age, were shot on the street in the Truman-West Street area. Lt. Chris Kelly said the preliminary investigation indicated the 8-year-old boy apparently was shot in his home, a victim of a stray bullet.
Police say the boy was shot in the stomach. One of the other victims was hit in the shoulder and the other was shot in the face.
"I heard about seven shots, then people screaming, `he's been hit,' Kelly Moye a resident of Truman Street, told the New Haven Register.
All three victims, who were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, were expected to survive, police said.
Police Chief Francisco Ortiz Jr., who responded to the scene, said there were seven officers working in the neighborhood prior to the shooting including two officers walking the beat.
"We have had a lot of cooperation. Folks know who the shooters are," Ortiz said
