HARTFORD, Conn. --A drug suspect who had reportedly jumped out of windows to elude police in the past, has died after a three-story fall while fleeing officers over the weekend, police said.
Carlos Alvarado, 22, died after a fall from a third-floor stairwell window of an apartment building on Belden Street early Saturday. Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts said that Alvarado has an extensive record of drug dealing and has jumped from windows in the past to elude police. "He's done things like this before," Roberts said. "It's not the first time he's jumped out of windows and onto rooftops to escape police." Officers early Saturday morning were working in the neighborhood on a narcotics investigation when they saw Alvarado make a drug transaction, then chased him to arrest him, Roberts said. "They were trying to apprehend an individual who was committing drug violations, and he fled, he ran and he jumped out the window," Roberts said. "It's unfortunate this incident occurred. We don't want anybody to get hurt." During the chase, Alvarado ran into 57 Belden St. and up to the fourth floor, Roberts said.
