State, County, Local and Federal officials have mounted one of the highest security levels in years as President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimire Putin meet in Kennebunkport, Maine. Roads and waterways have been sealed off in the area around the Walker's Point Bush house and thousands of protesters are arriving as well as a mass of security officials and media.
Local merchants, many openly expressing anger with the President for political reasons, are also upset by the security and protesters as they feel the event will have a negative impact on the July 4th business climate. Others have taken a "wait and see attitude."
This is the second double header appearance in the seacoast region of Maine-New Hampshire in two months. In May former Presidents Bush and Bill Clinton were at the University of New Hampshire for graduation ceremonies.
That operation went well.
