Residents warned to lock up, report suspicious behavior
By KAREN GOULART and ANDREW LIGHTMAN
The Patriot Ledger

Under cover of darkness the burglars slip through open doors or climb through windows.

As their victims sleep, they make quick work of scooping up purses, computers, iPods, cash - whatever they can carry while making a quick and quiet escape.

It’s a frightening scenario that has played out more than a dozen times in six South Shore towns in the past four months.

Since the end of March, residents in Cohasset, Hingham, Marshfield, Scituate, Rockland and Weymouth have awoken to find that someone was in their house, stealing their possessions.

Cohasset joined the list last week when, police believe, a burglar walked in through an unlocked door leading to the kitchen of a Beechwood Street home and walked out with a cache of electronic equipment.

A Rockland resident, who did not want to give her name, was the victim of one of these crimes. She recounted what happened one night this spring.

The Blossom Street resident came home late from work, put her pocketbook on the kitchen counter, and went to bed.

She may have heard the door open and close during the night, but thought it was probably just the kids coming and going, she said.
