WATERBURY, Conn. -- Waterbury police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting that happened overnight on Angel Drive.
James Mitchell was charged with manslaughter with a firearm and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Eric Moore, 38.
Police said Mitchell was involved in an altercation earlier in the evening on Angel Drive. In reaction to that dispute, Mitchell retrieved a shotgun from the trunk of his vehicle to confront the group of men that he had fought with. Mitchell and Moore were friends and Moore attempted to intervene and prevent Mitchell from using the shotgun.
A struggle over the shotgun ensued between the two men during which the shotgun fired one round.
Moore was struck in the front of his torso and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Mitchell is being held on $1 million bond. No further information is being released at this time.
