A friendly neighbor's concern:

Busy day at the car dealership, with three Howie Carr wannabee's:

It's always nice to get some feedback.

I would however advice "KevinBlah" to get a girlfriend since he and his friends have another clip just watching Troopers do speed enforcement.

I wish I recognized where that was................

Posted by: Killjoy

My advice to that "friendly neighbor" would be to "go f*ck yourself!". Never mind that a cruiser in your neighborhood is an automatic deterrent to criminals. Never mind that neighbors have some to my house in the middle of the night and pounded on my door asking for help, which I give, willingly and freely. Never mind that on your way to work in your POV you can space out and listen to your satellite radio, while the minute I turn my key in my government-owned cruiser, I am working; shagging DMV's, assisting accidents and writing V's long before I'm getting paid for it. Never mind that we put on our body armor, strap on our gun, and suit up in our uniforms every day and go out there into the dangerous and dirty part of society and try to make a world a slightly better place while you sit in your climate controlled cubicle playing solitaire.

In conclusion, my recommendation this "neighbor" is to:
1. Pull down your pants.
2. Place your head completely up your ass.
3. Thank your lucky stars every day you are fortunate enough to live next to a cop.
4. Find something more worthwhile to worry about then where we park our emergency vehicles.

I agree..that clip was about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Thanks for wasting almost 4 minutes of my life. What was it about that clip that was even remotely interesting??

Posted by: tazoez

From a lemming point of view about the videos:

The only reason why people might possibly think that they are interesting is the fact that when you see a police officer (or in this case the trooper[s]) walk out into the road and stop traffic to pull someone over, it gets your heart racing and mind thinking "oh crap, what did I do". If they point to someone other than you, there is an immeasurable sigh of relief that accompanies when you drive off. If it happens to be you that is pointed to, your heart races even faster.

In direct regards to this video, the only other point of amazement could be the fact that there are so many vehicles being pulled over at once. I can honestly say that when I have seen speed enforcement done, there usually is 2 maybe 3 vehicles in line waiting for either a warning or a ticket.

I found it interesting only for the fact that people should have seen the trooper using the Lidar gun or other cars being stopped and yet they continue to speed. Granted, the video does not show the road at a distance so I can only assume that it is straight or coming down a hill. (assumtions based on the fact that the road is probably prone to speeders and the hill seems more likely because a lot of people do not brake when going down to keep their speed under control).

I wish I recognized where that was................

me too , would then drive a little slower through there

thought it might be a parkway at first , but then i saw all the trucks.

NOPE

Anytime I do high visibility Lidar (not very often), it's usually a spot prone to speed-related accidents on the big road. And it's usually the locals, who see us there EVERY DAY, who are getting bagged, not grandpa or aunt Ginny coming up from Florida for the first time in years.

That's a pretty righteous attitude. Apparently, the officer is parking in a firelane on a regular basis. It's stupid things like that (officers parking in firelanes, handicap, etc) that makes people hate police officers. Lead by example.

Posted by: 209

Okay I agree with lead by example. BUT there are certian instances where exceptions can be made. For example the Trooper parking his cruiser infront of his house in the fire lane. By parking it in front of his home he is 100 times less likely to have it vandalized than if he parked it down the street away from him being able to monitor it. God forbid it got stolen and he did not realize it until the next day when he was going to work and a woman got raped by some A-hole driving a stolen cruiser. Also it needs to be parked close because he could be called out at any moment and in an emergency having to run down the street and waste all that time just getting to his car could cost someone their life. So no he doesnt have to walk as far as everyone on the block to park and go home but there is good reason for it. People that cannot look at the big picture drive me nuts.

Posted by: kwflatbed

Simple Solution

Have the apartment complex mark a designated parking spot for the cruiser
in the lane.
Good for the officer and complex, but that would be to simple.

I agree. The PO/Trooper's vehicle should be accessible and in a location where it will not be vandalized. That's his problem to figure out. The public doesn't care, they just see an officer using his position to his advantage. Everybody we stop/cite has an excuse like that. Again, just another situation that makes people dislike cops.

Posted by: MPD549

The moron that wrote that, has absolutely no nuts. He must have found the time to write that on craig's list while waiting for NAMBLA to get back to him. If you have a problm address it directly and don't be a p-ssy!

To quote justanotherparatrooper, "everybody thinks you're a prick already, so might as well enjoy the benefits!"

Posted by: tazoez

My thoughts.

OK, so he parks his cruiser in front of his apartment building in a firelane. Closest parking is about 10 minutes away from building walking distance.

I say that he is in the perfect parking spot for the cruiser in case he gets a call to "suit up".
How would it look if he had to tell his Sgt that he will be there as soon as he can because he has to run 3-5 minutes to get to his sled? Or better yet, as someone else pointed out, he parks 10 minutes away, gets dressed the next day, walks to the lot only to find that the car has been vandelized or actually stolen. How well do you think that is going to go over for his career?

Just my 2 cents..

Posted by: MM1799

Look; it is an emergency vehicle not his daily driver. The whole point of being issued a take home (repeating what others have alluded to...) is so you can be avaliable. As someone else said, I too have had neighbors ask for assistance or just guidance because they match my house up with my cruiser. If I lived in the city and parked in a lot, you wouldn't have a damn clue who to ask for help.
I'd be interested to know, because I am willing to bet he parks his daily driver in the lot 10 min. away.

Posted by: pahapoika

i used to park my wrecker on the sidewalk because the street was so small.

no one bitched , it was there for the night and then gone in the morning.

i see a few state cars parked on the street around my way and they are always in the same spot.

my guess is the neighbors keep a spot for the cop on their street. this guy just wants to bitch about nothing.

I didn't become a cop to be liked....you want to be liked, become a firefighter. If you don't like where a police officer parks his cruiser, fine, but have enough sack to tell him face-to-face, not write some BS on craig's list. Just make sure to bring a zip-lock bag to put your teeth in afterwards.

Posted by: stubrie

Don't they teach "composure" in the academy??
Punch someone in the teeth over a parking spot?
Where's they nearest youth hockey game, the ref needs a good beating..

The kids post is at 4:30 am, and he vents over a retarted spot.
This guy is pissed for the moment. It will pass.
Yeah- in a perfect world people would step up and address a situation.
It happens less and less everday, it's too bad because things get worked out a whole lot better.

KILLJOY IS CRANKY!!!!......Hey all I want to know is what people will think about me jack-knifing my Government owned horse in a fire lane.....KILLJOY is the man and park wherever you like brother!!

Posted by: firefighter39

So just who is going to move the cruiser out of the fire lane when there is a fire in the building and the FD needs to get the ladder truck in there to effect a rescue.

Fire lanes are there for a purpose - to keep the area free of obstruction so that fire, ems and police have unimpeded acsess to the building.

Posted by: evanbr33

Oh boy, the ding dings have chimed in, standby everyone!!!!...How about I make this counter argument? What if the Trooper has to park 10m away and there's an emergency callout he has to respond to (riot etc) and due to the delay, they're not able to respond in a timely fashion...or even worse, the cruiser has been vandalized since they had to park so far away.

Just park your red truck in the road and figure it out...adapt and overcome, deal w/ it

effect a rescue? nine times out of ten it's the cop that goes rushing into the building before you guys even get out of your pajamas.

Probably not the Trooper because if the building goes up in flames, I'm sure he'd be too busy taking charge of the situation and starting the evacuation process.. directing his neighbors to safety.. I guess he'd be an immediate responder as opposed to a first responder in this case.

Why would the cruiser have to be moved anyway.. since when do fire engines park in the fire lane. Don't they just usually park in the middle of the street anyway?

thats why the ladder are usually 100 + foot long, the manufacturers take into account set back distances.

Using your logic then why even have fire lanes at all -

Let's face facts - the neighbor is a turd for being a pussy and posting on Craigslist and not facing the trooper man to man -

BUT the trooper is wrong.

Fire lanes are not for off duty police, fire or ems. Using your arguments all pd,fd, and emsI should be able to park in the fire lanes all the time. These are not our private parking spaces - what if it was a handicapped space?

Also not all ladders are 100+ feet. A lot of fd's use 75 ft ladders, even Boston has some 85 foot tower ladders. On narrow streets the fire lanes also provide a means to set up the ladder - you need about an extra 5 feet on each side of the truck for the outriggers.

Posted by: THE RP

Oh, thank god.

A lesson in the capabilities of a piece of fire apparatus..

Is there no mass.sparks forums for you to visit.

Please stop...It's a fire lane not sacred ground. There's plenty of room and my advice to the trooper is MOVE and leave your hippy pud neighbors to their own fate.

Good point.. many buildings dont have them anyway.. just be thankful when you show up and no one is parked in front of the hydrant.

Its his damn cruiser.. If he were parking his personal in the fire lane then it'd be a different story. When he is off duty and leaves his home, i'm sure he too has to endure a 10 minute hike to his vehicle, just like his disgruntled neighbor.

Sure, if you're in your big red truck, then why not? Again, the Tropper is not parking his personal in the fire lane.

Thanks for all the great info.. what do those babies get for gas mileage anyway? Stop showing up to calls your not needed at, wasting all that expensive gas, and you may be able to afford the 100 footers!

a trooper is never off duty.

The lemmings are never at a loss for reasons to "hate police officers". If it wasn't a cruiser in the fire lane, then it would be that the cop is "walking to his cruiser wearing his firearm out in the open scaring all the children..." or some other load of Bolshevik Bullsh8t.

Be thankful that a cop has deigned to grace your syphilitic neighborhood with his presence, never mind his uncanny intelligence and good looks!

I think the trooper should just print-up a counterfeit handicap permit and park in the "Handi-capable" spot...cause, he's the police, and in the words of a Judge in Hampden County: "...she's a trooper and can do whatever she wants...you, on the other hand, are nothing...responsible...when can you pay?"

The trooper, after he evacuates the building of people and pets...as you guys roll up in time to polish your nozzle and "effectively" save the cellar.

you are right. But at the fire academy I went to and used to teach at, basic rescue says that bringing a hysterical, half concious, and half blinded by smoke victim down a ladder is the LAST way to make a rescue. Also, rule of thumb for a ladder truck is to be posted at the CORNER of a building so two sides can be reached, not directly in front. As far as 5 foot on each side, most depts (boston included) short jack on the opposite side fom the fire. and even a 110 foot ladder at optimum angle will only reach the 7th floor einstein.

Posted by: jj1979

ok I am new to LE in the commonwealth. What is the problem with a trooper who if I am not mistaken can be called in and told be at the scene very quickly parking his cruiser in a fire lane? Is it blocking a hydrant? Would the fire department have a problem accessing the building? Somehow I doubt that a trooper would cause a problem like that. In my opinion the neighbor who posted something about this on Craigslist is a coward. If the person had a problem go up and say something to the trooper and have a spine. Neighbor is probably just some cop envious fat body who wanted to be a cop but too many restraining orders from the ex wives club and acts of cowardice similar to his craigslist escapade kept him out of contention.

I grew up in a shady part of a city and we would have been glad to have a cop living in the hood to keep the local filth from robbing.

Hey dcs-
You posted 2 hours ago and then made an edit to include that one line "zinger"
Between your post and your edit time was one hour.

It took you one hour of thought to come up with that one liner??

You put that much thought into thinking about ME.......
And to think you haven't even asked me out to dinner, yet

Will I end up in your diary today??,

I could have a field day with this one.
Sorry, my phone # is unlisted, "one liner"
Thanks for making my day, all in GREAT fun.

I suppose trips to Dunkie's and Subway are good uses of fire trucks? Maybe I should write a V for the next fire truck I see obstructing the flow of traffic so some some sparkie can grab his latte.

It's all good, Killjoy! They're everyones friend and have those cute doggies from that Disney film and everything! Not like those dirty, nasty, brutish cops with their nasty killer Nazi Shepards.

Firemen help people! They get widdle kitties out of twees! The pigs only f5ck innocent people and cause guys to have trips to the dentists office and emergency rooms! Did you know that one part of a cops benefits package is stock in Stanley Bostitch? That they trade in cat-gut futures? They are the essence of evvviiilll!!!1!!!
