CRANSTON, R.I. -- A bank robbery in Cranston Friday morning sparked a massive manhunt for two suspects, who were eventually captured. NBC 10's Brian Crandall reported that a Bank Rhode Island branch on Plainfield Pike was held up at about 10 a.m. at gunpoint. Police said two men involved in the robbery took off in a car, but were later spotted running into some nearby woods, triggering a massive manhunt. Officers from four communities and the state police scoured an area between Interstate 295 and Scituate Avenue. Crandall reported that the suspects were tracked down with the help of police dogs, including Axel from the state police. "He led us, basically, right to him after about a half an hour search in the woods," state police detective Matthew Moynihan said. Police said they found a significant amount of money on one of the men. The names of the suspects were not released.
