By Mike Underwood, Enterprise staff writer BROCKTON — A raid on suspected crack cocaine dealers has put a major dent in the city's drug network, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said.
“It not only interrupts the cycle of dealing but also the violence that often accompanies it,” he said, two days after law enforcement officials snared 16 suspects in a major city sweep.
“When we take the drug dealers off the street, we have less drug dealing,” said Cruz. “We also send a message to others that this criminal behavior has serious negative consequences.”
Officers launched dawn raids on several addresses throughout Brockton in a major hunt for 28 suspects wanted in connection with the sale and distribution of drugs.
A total of 16 people were collared while another two were arrested for other offenses, said the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.
More than 60 Brockton and state police detectives and federal agents were involved in the raids, during which two guns were also seized.
Most suspects are from Brockton and includes one juvenile.
The investigation was done in response to the sudden increase in gun violence, authorities said.
