DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines police officer is recovering from facial injuries after being hit by a car Wednesday night. Police said Officer Eric Hartman, 32, was running radar on the 31st Street entrance ramp to the Interstate 235 when he was hit by a Volkswagen driven by 28-year-old Phillip Mullen. Hartman suffered cuts to his face. Mullen was not hurt. Investigators said alcohol was not involved. No charges have yet been filed.
