Do you need to go to school to become a firefighter? can you work while you're going to school....what is the first couple steps in becoming a firefighter? Thanks

JUST to make myself clear...I want to be a police officer....MY HUSBAND wants to be a firefighter....sorry for the misunderstanding! he currently works most of the day so i am trying to find some info for him. thanks for the concern anyway

first, if you live in a town with a vollie dept, have your husband join it. they will usually put you thru firefighter 1 & 2 training. doesnt hurt to become a paramedic either. Most non civil service towns are looking for firefighter paramedics now. Civil service, same as police, take the test and pray to god you have residency and a good score.
