Blackwater, USA.
popular mercenary company.....

anyone have any informatin about these guys?
how long they offer tours for? how much they're paid?
what they're doing in the AOR?

i'd love to get into something like this. what qualifications would be best to have? what military schools would be best to attend, etc?

Posted by: screamineagle

Most of the guys are prior SEAL, Special forces types from what I know.

What they do in AOR? probably whatever they want to.

Posted by: BlackOps

SEALs, Army Delta, etc.

They get a lot of applicants with various special forces experience and very few make it to an offer of employment.

Good luck.

I was in the business a few years ago, good times, big bucks. Now they are slave contracts for short money, and the risk has not changed..be very mindful of what you sign.

I heard that blackwater makes you attend their mini academy unpaid as well. Dyncorp is another provider of these services. With a wider selection of security work. You can make up to 120,000 a year. Your first tour

in the book Licensed To Kill by Robert Y. Pelton it said you pay for your own training and then assigned a low level security job. if that works out then you get a shot at the high speed stuff and big money.

in the book it mentioned Blackwater hiring cops since they ran out of the special forces types.

( the author sounded like a liberal , so take it for what it's worth )

from the book

I care not for ribbons and awards for valor. I do this job for the opportunity to kill the enemies of my country and to finally get that boat I've always wanted. In any combat zone I will always find the swimming pool, beer and women because I can. I will deploy on my own terms and if it ever get's too stupid , I will simply find a company that pays me more

Some of the guys I work with who've done Iraq/Afganistan tours have expressed dislike of the private military companies. Because they're not responsible to anyone but their employer they give Americans a bad name with unchecked free-fire which destroys property and kills/maims civilians. They also get themselves into hot water frequently and call on the military to bail them out. The military then has to risk people and equipment to rescue them, degrades the military's ability to protect their own assets and takes them away from more important missions.

I heard that this was because Blackwater and other companies are training Afganistani and Iraqi police departments. Who better to train cops than cops? I mean, I can't demo a bridge, but I doubt a Navy Seal could conduct a murder investigation either.

As some of you know I run a Yahoo support group for private
contractors working in the war zones and their families.
Usually the friction that is involved is the amount of money
the contractors make compared to the military not the job
they do or getting in hot water.
I know both para military and cops that are working over
there for many different companies.
Most of the cops are trainers and the para are security
and escort.
Most of them enjoy what they are doing and of course
the pay that goes with it.

Both are very good organizations. Good for a young single guy. Good luck

A majority of the private contractor jobs are military missions, that were handed down to the contractors. So in essence, the private companies are bailing out the military. Other contracts are commercial ventures, ie telecom, building facilities, and other private vendors. Those are more high risk with no military support whatsoever.

Why go to those places for $120K when you can make it here? That's why you get deputy doughnut from broken-branch USA, who makes $22K a year at podunk sheriffs department.

And don't let the Blackwater hype fool you. Before the company made it in to the headlines, there were people completely unqualified to be on THE detail. I'm talking, no military/police experience at all. They just knew the right people and went to the train-up in NC.

You can train a monkey how to shoot, but common sense is issued to a select few at birth.

Just remember to be careful what you wish for;

The four burnt bodies hanging from the bridge in Faluja = Blackwater who took a wrong turn.

Have fun!
