Reputed leaders of a Framingham gang accused of peddling a kilogram of cocaine a week and recruiting over MySpace [website] were indicted yesterday in a sweeping federal drug sting called “Operation Thunderdome.”
In all, 20 alleged members of the gang, known as the Kendall Street Thugs, face state and federal cocaine charges.
The KST used both traditional methods of intimidation, such as graffiti and modern ones, such as MySpace.com, a social networking Web site. They even had a picture of a group of gang members, including a 9-year-old, on a MySpace.com page, authorities said yesterday.
The gang, dressed in similar outfits, many sporting “KST” tattoos, often went into fights with eight to 10 members ready for violence.

Among those arrested were self-described general Lahashid Santiago, 20, of Natick, and reputed gang founder James Salvi, 22, of Framingham. Three women were also arrested earlier this week in connection with KST.

cw-2During the investigation, undercover investigators and informants made 35 controlled cocaine purchases from known KST members or their associates throughout downtown Framingham. Also, investigators recovered more than a pound and a half of cocaine, $40,000 in cash and several firearms while serving search warrants.

“Because of this investigation, the people who live on the streets affected can walk down their sidewalks, sit on their porches and allow their children to ride their bikes down the streets without fear,” said U.S Attorney Michael Sullivan at a press conference in Boston yesterday.

“They’ve been a negative part of Framingham,” said Framingham police Chief Steven Carl. “They harassed and intimidated people.”

Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone said the investigation “isn’t over yet,” adding authorities refuse to “tolerate the code of silence.”
