SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- A home health care aide charged with killing the woman he was supposed to be caring for is acquitted of murder.
Michael Sobers was cleared by a Hampden Superior Court jury Wednesday after a nine-day trial and a day of deliberations.
Prosecutors alleged that Sobers, 22, was stealing money and prescription drugs from Monalisa Barber, 44, of Westfield. They claimed he stabbed her on March 3, 2005 when she caught him. Sobers' lawyer told the jury that Sobers found Barber's body, but someone else killed her.
Hampden District Attorney William Bennett said he is "very disappointed" with the verdict.
