Agents Raided Needham Office

NEEDHAM, Mass. -- A Needham doctor has had his license pulled over pain medication concerns.

NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacy reported that agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the IRS and the FBI raided Dr. Jeffrey Zolot's office on Gould Street in Needham last month but it was unclear why at the time.

Now federal officials have seized a number of patient records as part of an investigation into Zolot's willingness to prescribe painkillers -- including Oxycontin and Methadone.
The state is also probing what it calls "substandard care" to more than two dozen patients dating back to 1999. Eight of those patients have died -- including three who passed away within days of their appointments with Zolot.

Among the allegations being leveled against Zolot: That he prescribed unneeded painkillers; that he gave excessive joint injections; that he knew little about his patients' medical histories

Zolot has been licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts since 1993. According to the Boston Globe, his wife said her husband denies all the charges and will appeal the medical board's decision. He has seven days to do that.
