NEW BEDFORD — Six defendants charged in the weekend kidnapping and assault of an illegal immigrant will face dangerousness hearings next week in New Bedford District Court.
On Tuesday, police arrested Curtis Littleton, 20, of 279 Ash St., who they said was the third man who kidnapped the victim at gunpoint outside the Portuguese Sports Club Friday night. Mr. Littleton, who was at large during the weekend, was arraigned Tuesday and is being held until a dangerousness hearing next Tuesday.
Police arrested five individuals Saturday on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and other offenses: Juan Feliciano, 21, of 85 Rivet St. was charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and battery, assault with intent to kill, larceny and unlawful possession of a firearm; Jae Lyn Stringer, 20, of 259 Weld St., kidnapping and armed robbery; Stephanie Furtado, 21, 10 Cleveland St., kidnapping; Kassondra Seifert, 17, 10 Cleveland St., kidnapping; Frederick Sawyer, 20, 21 Ashley St., kidnapping, armed robbery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
They are all being held for dangerousness hearings June 28.
According to police reports, the men forced the victim into a car, beat him several times, robbed him, threatened him at gunpoint, tied him up and blindfolded him.
The victim's captors drove him to a tenement at 10 Cleveland St. and took him to the cellar, where the victim told police he was tied up, beaten again and told he was being held for ransom, police said.
Later, according to police reports, the group dragged him from the cellar to an upstairs apartment and beat him again before throwing him into a bathtub.
The victim managed to escape by running through the building's back door when the group tried to take him back to the cellar, the victim told police. He said he hid in a tree for more than an hour.
