WORCESTER— On Friday, 44 men and women were officially joined to the ranks of their local police departments across the state. Ceremonies were conducted at Quinsigamond Community College after six months of rigorous discipline at the Boylston Police Academy in Boylston.
Training included studies in criminal law, motor vehicle law, police procedures and weapons training.
The 17th Municipal Police Officers class started its training Jan. 29.
As the class entered the graduation ceremony, the Webster Police Department honor guard — Sgt. Michael Shaw and Officers James Young Sr., Patrick Perry and Steven Cacciapouti — accompanied them.
April Gadarowski of Barre sang the national anthem and deacon David Vaillancourt, a lieutenant in the Marlboro Police Department, gave the invocation.
Welcome and introductions were given by Kevin M. Donnelly, academy director of the Boylston Police Academy, and Dennis Pinkham, executive director of the Municipal Police Training Committee.
After comments by Northboro Police Chief Mark Leahy, the guest speaker was Rutland Sgt. Eric Pearson. Lt. Vaillancourt gave the benediction.
