I've been looking into the USCG and ANG and i was wondering which branch would be the best. I have been working in Corrections for 4 years and I have a BS in Conservation law enforcement. I am looking into the Officer programs as well as Security. I was looking at the ANG website and it's frustrating because it doesn't give you any contact info on getting ahold of a recruiter. Anybody have any suggestions or info about being able to contact a recruiter??? As far as the USCG, I am finding it frustrating as well, I talked with a recruiter and they seem like they aren't interested in anybody joining. It really seems like they are trying to send me to a differant branch of the military. If anybody has any input, please let me know

Any National Guard unit Army or AF, you have to contact the unit you're interested in, and they keep the recruiting in-house. Westover Airbase would be a good place to start.

I know the coast guard is picky. I went to them last month and they brushed me off. I am prior service marine. Now i am lokking into the navy reserve master at arms. Check them out just some advise. If you want to join any branch of the military check them all out.

Have you considered the Environmental Police? With your background you seem like a good candidate.
If you want to both be an officer and get some law enforcement experience, join the Army National Guard, enlist as a Military Police Officer, then apply to go to Officer Candidate School. Hopefully you can branch MP. which looks great on your resume'. You may have to do a year in Iraq, but then you get veterans status for civil service.
PM me if you have any questions.
Yes, I am an Officer in the National Guard, and I have seen a lot of good people get good civilian careers from their training from the NG.
I can hook you up with a good recruiter.

im an SP over at westover, if you like PM withy our # and i'll have the rec. give you a call, i just joined there in feb, prior ANG. it's a pretty decent gig.. ive got a fulltime spot and the squadron's well put together. good ppl. as far as qualifications and etc. i'd go with Coast Guard, but if you're looking you can comfortably slide into and enjoy, then i'd go to westover. we need ppl right now.

I am thinking of airng security forces. The recruiter told me i would have to go to tech school. How is that school for prior service? Also i would be drilling out of otis how is it there.

Co2... The Otis cops have been discussed many times on this board. Do a little searching and you will find your answers.

im originally from otis, it was alright.... you gotta be careful though. waatch your back n stuff. the jets are leaving in october and i honestly dont see the guard just letting that unit sit by and do nothing, so you may deploy although thats happening wherever you go right now. there having some manpower issues as well. the guard is kinda broke as well tho so its tough to get schools. Westover is definitely a better gig. prior service guys over at otis or awesome, especially prior army. as far as SF tech school you will have to go no matter what. But since you're prior service you'll stay at the hotel on base and not with the kids. you'll also have the option of bringing your own pv or not. they may even throw you a rental. the training is good. you'll be put in charge of a 13 man squad of the tech school kids and train with them. they assume that prior service guys will have the experience to guide em here n there while learning the career field. the PT isnt that hard at all. every other day with the weekends off. no base restrictions for you guys. if you go in the summer its hot as hell. and right before you go to camp bullis for deployment and field training you have to pass this an individual training course. i thought that was the toughest part of the entire school to tell you the truth. but it was also 105 degrees out hahaha. the academics are not that hard easy to memorize. weapons are easy as well. m-4,m-9, m249, m240, and hand grenades. as long as you stay outta trouble, dont touch the tech school girls, and pass the tests you should be fine hahaha.

Thanks for the info.I am talking to the recruiter this week and fill out what paper work has to filled out.And go back to the great meps.I did go down to the air show in rhode island and talked to some of the security force guys down there. One of them told me they have some 3 months deployments is that true. Also do the security forces get called up to do things in mass.Shorty Co how are you making out did you decide yet. Thanks again for the info.If you have any more info it would be appreciated. Thanks

HAHA 3 month deployments. mmm now maybe prior to Sept 11th but now security forces are doing 6-8 months depending on how long your pre deployment spin up training is. and that's guard active and reserve. as far as doingthings in mass no luck there either. gov. usually relies on army guard mp's for things like that.

Why stay away from otis and security forces.
Posted by: NegroRotary
You do not want to come to that place, they don't even know if they will have a mission or job, so either check the Army or Coast Guard

Otis = the place where dreams come to die... lol

I was told that there was going to be that new intel group coming in.So what is the real deal on otis. The only reason i am looking down there it is close to home. Can you transfer to westover? How is morale? Some people say it is good down there. Can you get deployments out of there.Any advice. Thanks

Look at Westfield or westover man, I don't know if we got the mission or not, can't tell you that, its only one weekend a month, so you can drive west just one weekend a month
