Armed citizen patrol in New Haven

(New Haven-WTNH) _ One group armed with guns is ready to make their New Haven neighborhood a safer place by patrolling in the area around Edgewood Park.
A press conference Monday announced the formation of the Edgewood Park Defense Patrol. The group was formed as a direct response to an escalation of crimes such as vandalism, robberies and muggings. As recently as Sunday night, Rabbi Daniel Greer was assaulted outside his home and now he will be part of the armed patrol.
Those patrolling the area Monday night say they have had proper training. They also say that they are not vigilante's, but rather they are just trying to keep their neighborhood safe.

New Haven-WTNH) _ The Edgewood Park Defense Patrol was formed in response to what members say is an escalation is crime including vandalism, robberies and muggings.
A mugging Sunday night in which Rabbi Dov Greer of Yeshiva New Haven, prompted the group to organize and start the nightly patrols. At least 2-people will be biking or walking around the Edgewood Park neighborhood. But the difference between this and your average neighborhood watch is that at least one of them will be armed with a concealed gun.
The idea of an armed citizen patrol has some residents worried.
"By them carrying guns, I think that's a bad idea because someone can get hurt, you know, I think it's a big mistake, they should let the police do their job," said Gus Lane of New Haven.
Others are not sure.
"I have mixed feelings with that, the guns, I don't like guns, with them riding around, that's good, at least someone's being on the lookout for you know, other people that's attacking people," said Gwen Alford of New Haven.

New Haven Police say that they are adamantly opposed to the idea saying, "That has danger written all over it. No cops want this. We don't condone this. This is not the wild, wild west."

I dunno know man it is already like the wild wild west there.

Went for a run along the waterfront while down that way for training and I was tripping over spent shell casings and needles.

I see that the guardian angels have shown up for this also. Anything to get them in the news
