Main Page Arlington PD taking laterals...

I just saw that Arlington PD is taking lateral transfers. Can anyone give me any insight into the department, I don't know too much about it. Perhaps if anyone on here is an Arlington Officer. I am a an experienced local officer considering a move.

I was wondering what their base is too. I hear good things about them, I hear they are a strict department.

yeah i work with someone who is friend's with the guy. she is also a winner, but I'm not going to get into it. yeah, that whole strict on this guy was somewhat of a joke, because the situation could have been disatrous, he lived near a school.

Like so many other things with cops, it wasn't the initial screw-up that got him....it was the botched cover-up.

I heard municipal police could not tranfer to state police but can state police transfer to local police like arlington. do they have to complete additional training, and would arlington take them.

If Arlington was smart they would.

Neither group can lateral to the other. The only laterals are from one civil service municipal department to another, and even then you need the approval of both chiefs.

Completely different jobs....a trooper wouldn't necessarily be a good city or town cop, while a city or town cop wouldn't necessarily be a good trooper.

To answer a wide variety of calls for service....domestics, armed robberies, B&E's in progress, bar fights, etc. The average road trooper has very little to nothing to do with those types of calls.

A city cop see's more in a year then a trooper see's in a lifetime and thats a fact.so keep your comments to yourself and go write some felony speeding tickets!

Since it's not a national secret that most of a road trooper's great pinches are via ch90 enforcement; they probably enjoy it and wouldn't want to transfer if it was available.

I don't understand why this trooper bashing starts all the time. Maybe the troopers are correct, you guys are just plain jealous. I am a local and had the opportunity to go to the 77th a few years ago but I couldn't do it for a few reasons but I never look back with jealousy or bad thoughts against my fellow brothers. I think they do a good job and their camaraderie is to be admired as it is absent in so many local PDs.

I sincerely try to not engage in bashing anyone, but there are still some hard feelings amongst us old-timers for the attitude displayed by many troopers before the 1992 merger, which injected a huge dose of personality and humility into the state police.

I was called for the state police off the merger list, and tossed the background package in the trash. That job just simply doesn't interest me, and if someone wants to call me jealous because of that, I submit that's further proof of the attitude that turned me off in the first place.

I haven't had a problem with a state trooper in many years, but cops have memories like elephants.

I, personally, do not have a problem with troopers. Some of my friends are troopers and they love their job as I do mine. I just wish they would play in their own sandbox. A few come in our city, go stir up the crap in the projects, get in a foot chase, and no one can find them. It becomes frustrating because frankly we have enough to do without the worry of a brother officer's safety from another agency. Again, its not all, but just a few. I don't know, maybe they do it to boost their stats. Anyone else experience this....say Brockton, Quincy, or the like? I'm sure alot would be said if muni's went out onto the highway and started running radar, etc. Just my two bits...

I don't care so much about that, just don't treat me like something stuck to the bottom of your boot when I get there to help you.

A bunch of guys I grew up with work there now. From what I heard they were one of the lowest paid in the Greater Boston area, and were real slow on hiring for years. However since they got a new Town Manager and a number of older officers have retired things might of changed. I do know that at least two of their guys bailed and went to Boston PD when they were asking for Civil Service Laterals a few months ago. From what I heard from one of the guys I still talk to they supposedly want to put five on from this next list.
