MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) We have some breaking news about a serious accident on the Mass Pike. State Police Trooper Perrault out of the Westfield Barracks told 22News that one of their cruisers has been involved in an accident.Trooper Perrault says the trooper in the cruiser is being transported to Noble Hospital for treatment. The accident happened at about 4:15 Thursday night in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 32. People driving east on the pike from Lee should run into delays. We will bring you more details as they become available.

BLANDFORD - A state trooper was seriously injured today when his cruiser was involved in a crash with a maintenance vehicle in the breakdown lane of the Massachusetts Turnpike, authorities said.
The trooper, whose identity was withheld tonight, was at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after being transferred from Noble Hospital in Westfield following the accident, state police spokesman Eric Anderson said.
His injuries were considered serious, but not life-threatening, he said.
The accident occurred in the eastbound break-down lane around 4:10 p.m., Anderson said. The trooper had apparently started a pursuit and was accelerating from the side of the road, when the maintenance truck pulled into the breakdown lane to stop, he said. The accident remains under investigation, he said. Seatbelt information was not available.

Sort of a bad pic of the cruiser but I found one on the net. Hope the Trooper is doing ok.

SPRINGFIELD - State police have identified the trooper who sustained serious injuries yesterday in an accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Westfield.

The trooper is Jeffrey T. Ahern, said state police spokesman Sgt. Robert M. Bousquet Jr.

Ahern, 48, was driving his 2004 Crown Victoria cruiser in the breakdown lane headed east in Blandford at 4:10 p.m. when he collided with a 2003 Ford turnpike service vehicle.

The driver of the service vehicle, Dean G. Varelas, 41, was not injured, Bousquet said.

Ahern, who works out of the Westfield state police barracks, was brought at first to Noble Hospital in Westfield.

A police spokesman said Thursday night that Ahern was transferred to Baystate Medical Center, where he was admitted and is being treated.

Ahern had apparently started a pursuit and was accelerating from the side of the road when the maintenance vehicle pulled into the breakdown lane to stop, the spokesman said.

Seatbelt information was not available.

The accident is under investigation, Bousquet said
