LOS ANGELES -- Federal prosecutors and immigration officials will announce Wednesday the arrests of more than 120 illegal immigrants with criminal or prior arrest records and membership in Los Angeles-area street gangs. The arrests took place during a 90-day operation that led to the indictment of more than 50 of the suspected gang members on federal drug, weapons and immigration charges, according to a notice distributed in advance of Wednesday's formal announcement. The acting U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles, George Cardona, will be present at the 11 a.m. news conference to discuss the arrests and charges, along with Robert Schoch, special agent in charge at the Los Angeles office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
