ANGLETON, Texas --
A former sheriff's deputy has been accused of burglarizing Brazoria County businesses, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Brazoria County sheriff's deputies said Robert Ullom, 43, is a suspect in burglaries in Sweeny and Clute.
The owner of Sweeny Tire and Auto said he installed surveillance cameras after several burglaries at his storage units. He reviewed the tapes after a burglary and said he was shocked by what he saw.
"It took them probably 30 to 35 minutes to complete the task," Dicky Williams said. "There's motion sensor lights. They parked, the lights came on and we could see them very clearly."
Williams said jewelry, a guitar and baseball cards were some of the items stolen from the unit.
Deputies reviewed the tapes and were able to identify two of the men. Investigators said one of them looked very familiar.
Ullom was a sheriff's deputy for 12 years and was a patrol officer in Freeport.
"It's disheartening for anybody that's in this profession when you have one of your own that turned bad," Lt. Russ Baker said.
Ullom was arrested on Wednesday when he was pulled over on suspicion of a traffic violation. Deputies said they searched his vehicle and found woolen caps with the eyes cut out, walkie-talkies and binoculars.
Investigators said they searched Ullom's home and found other items believed to have been stolen.
Officials said Ullom may have been involved in burglaries that occurred over the past six months. Law enforcement agencies in Angleton, Brazoria, Clute, Freeport, Lake Jackson and Sweeny are involved in the investigation.
Detectives said some of the burglary victims may be able to recover their property. Many of the items, including some of the jewelry, have been found at pawn shops.
