KANSAS CITY, Mo. --
A police officer is recovering after being shot in the ankle early Tuesday morning during a foot pursuit, authorities said.
Investigators said the officer tried to pull over the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro for speeding at about 3 a.m. near 47th Street and Sterling Avenue. The driver would not stop initially, but when he did, he fled on foot, police said.
Authorities said the officer chased after the driver and was shot in the ankle during a running shootout.
With the help of a police dog, officers were able to locate the driver, who was hiding in a garage. Police at the scene said they took an 18-year-old man into custody. The teen was treated for injuries when the police dog found him.
Two other officers suffered minor injuries during the pursuit.
Investigators said the car the teen was driving had been taken in a carjacking in Kansas City, Kan.
