SOUTHEAST, N.Y. The driver of a car that was weaving along a suburban road at 2:45 a.m. was a 15-year-old boy who didn't have a license and was apparently intoxicated, state police said Monday.
Trooper Christopher Esposito pulled the car over early Sunday on Route 6 in Southeast when he spotted it "being operated erratically," said Sgt. Ted Daley.
"As soon as the driver of the vehicle said, `I don't have a license,' the trooper saw fit to have this person exit the vehicle," the sergeant said. The driver's intoxication was apparent, he said.
The boy, whose name was not made public because of his age, was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breath test. He and a companion, also a teenager, were taken to police headquarters in Brewster, and his father was called to pick him up.
"Unfortunately it seems to be a somewhat disturbing trend that more and more juveniles are not only engaging in this misbehavior but then furthering the danger of it by going out and driving," Daley said.
