Optional Running @ Plymouth MPTC???

I was at In-Service today in Plymouth and one of the guys in my class, a Plymouth County CO, said that he was no longer asked to do PT instruction for the MPTC Recruit academy because running was now optional? Now, this was towards the end of class and we all wanted to get out of there so he didn't continue. But it did get a few of us talking. Has anyone else heard this? I kind of find it hard to believe. Even when they lowered the entrance standards in the movie "Police Academy", they still ran a little.......?

I believe that at Training Council Academies PT is now optional... however, non TC academies such as Boston, MBTA, Worcester, and Lowell that is not true whatsoever. Speaking from a Lowell MPOC perspective, I can't imagine going to a training council academy.

Are we talking ALL P.T. or are the recruits still doing at least cardio etc.?

I was at the last Plymouth graduation and saw some squared away looking officers getting pinned. A couple looked like they sat on a couch during the couple dozen weeks though...must be embarrasing to be the new guy and have a size 44 waist.

I've been at the Plymouth academy for the last 2 days and haven't seen the current recruit class outside at all, except for morning formation.

They look pretty squared away to me. There are a couple of big guys but nothing too crazy.

i know a guy in there now... he was probably one of the bigger guys. I guess they make you run,, but if you have an illness or injury, you can sit out, but you hafta make it up before graduation

I don't think Chief Majenski would be happy about that rumor.

Which if true is something but not very practial in my book. When was the last time any of us ran 4 miles after a guy to catch him?

They should be doing distance runing for cardio and then incorporate 400 yd sprinting, with full duty gear in boots. THIS is what happens in reality. Its awesome you can run 5 miles in sneakers and a t shirt. What happens when you have to chase a guy running at fullspeed, in boots, duty belt and a vest which constricts your lung expansion? I say add some realism to it.....

I agree USMC... We did alot more sprinting and pleiometrics in my academy, and I think it made a big difference in my short term stamina.

i second what USMCTrooper said....

I'll tell you what happens. My lower body did not keep up with my upper body and I landed on my face. Just got up and tried it again.

No Chief Majenski would not be happy....Not at all. They run and then run some more; usually in the afternoon around 1445.
