Looking for peoples thoughts and opinions of NJSP?

Squared away! They have been dealing with a law suit of the years, but they should be getting off the radar soon. I play softball against several of their Tprs, class act guys. Check out their web site, it should provide you with the info you need. Good luck.

Quite the contrary to my buddies down there. The last court ruling has completely taken the wind out of their sails. Without getting specific, let's just say pro-active enforcement is at an all-time low.

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) -- The mother of two teenage girls who were killed when a state trooper crashed his cruiser into their vehicle is suing the trooper.

According to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in state Superior Court, Trooper Robert Higbee was driving faster than 75 mph on the 35 mph road without flashing emergency lights or sirens seconds before the Sept. 27 accident.

The suit, filed by Maria Caiafa of Upper Township, claims the cruiser was traveling at 60 mph when it ran a stop sign and struck the driver's side of a minivan, killing 17-year-old Jacqueline Becker and her sister, Christina, 19. The sisters had gone to the market for milk.

Higbee, 34, is awaiting trial on two counts of vehicular homicide in the crash. He has pleaded not guilty.

"It's either Maria Caiafa sits back and for the rest of her life wonders if she should have done something on behalf of her children, or she moves forward and picks up the mantle and carries it,'' her lawyer, Lewis April, told the Press of Atlantic City for Wednesday's newspapers.

Higbee has been suspended without pay since being indicted Feb. 27. He could be sentenced to 20 years in prison if convicted.

His lawyer, D. William Subin, has filed a motion to dismiss the indictment.

Subin maintains Higbee was pursuing a speeder that night.

Sine,
Yes PACE/ICE has gone down due to that, but they are coming back. We have been dealing with it too. I know first hand what the sanctions can do to an agency and hard chargers, it sucks!
Every summer we talk about the suit at tourneys and from the guys I talk with things are getting better. It is like anything, there are good times and there are bad times; they, like us are going through a bad time right now. Feel free to PM me if you like.
STAY SAFE!

Obviously there going to be good times and bad times anywhere. I just wanted a general idea overall of how their agency is compared to ours (MSP). Of course, I hear opinions on both ends of the spectrum.

I believe the strength of SPAM really helps us avoid the silly games other departments have to play. MD is a great place to live and work, but the legislature has really kicked you guys in the bullocks.

Be active in SPAM, because you will miss it VERY much if it were to go away!!!!!!!! Enough said on that subject. STAY SAFE!
