As police continue to investigate what happened on the southside, the victim's family is in mourning over the death of a loved one.
Saturday night family members prayed, cried, and held candles in honor of Walter Canez. They held the vigil at the scene of the shooting. 24 hours earlier police shot Canez in the street.
According to TPD they got a report of a man waving a gun at people near 36th and Campbell. When officers arrived, police say Canez had two guns in his waistband and refused to obey police commands.
Police say Canez moved his hands toward the waistband and both officers fired at the suspect, killing him. The shooting is under investigation and Saturday it's an emotional time for the victim's families and the officers involved.
News 4 has learned one of the officers involved in the shooting Jeffery Stover has been involved in two other officer involved shootings in Tucson.
The first incident, back in September of 2005, 40 year old Miguel Kovrig was shot and killed in front of his home.
Kovrig was reportedly waiving a gun, threatening to kill his family.
Police say Stover and another TPD officer ordered Kovrig to drop his weapon.
When Kovrig refused, both Stover and the other officer shot and killed him.
A review board cleared Stover of any wrong doing.
Then in May of last year, Stover shot and killed 25 year old Deangelo Rivera after Rivera reportedly assaulted Stover and pointed a loaded gun at him.
A TPD review board cleared Stover of wrong-doing in this incident as well.
Toxicology tests showed Rivera had cocaine in his system at the time of his death. Witnesses at the scene the night Rivera was fatally shot by Stover say Rivera never pulled a gun on the officer.
Since that incident, Rivera's family has filed a civil lawsuit against Stover.
That case is still pending.
