FREETOWN — A man driving a tractor-trailor was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after his truck crashed into a police cruiser Friday near Cathedral Camp on Middleboro Road. Police said the driver, Todd Lafreniere, 41, of Acushnet, rear-ended the cruiser, which was parked on the shoulder of Middleboro Road. The cruiser had its emergency lights flashing and traffic cones were in position to warn motorists to slow down for the Lakeside Family Festival at the camp. The cruiser was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported. Freetown Police Chief Carlton Abbott said hundreds of people attended the Lakeside Family Festival. "We are extremely fortunate that a family or the officer directing traffic wasn't injured," Chief Abbott said. Police arrested Mr. Lafreniere at the scene and charged him with driving while under the influence of alcohol and driving to endanger. He will be arraigned Tuesday in Fall River District Court.
