Five people were badly hurt including three children after the cars they were travelling in swerved to avoid goldfish that had been left on the road. Police were yesterday (Thu) trying to find out how the goldfish that were in a water filled plastic bag came to be in the middle of the road in Paderborn. Mother Marianne Schmitt, 47, slammed on the breaks of her Fiesta when she spotted the bag in the road, but drivers behind her could not stop in time and five cars piled into each other.
The crash left five people in hospital although none of them are in danger. Police said the goldfish had been taken to a pet shop. A spokesman said: 'We have no idea yet how the goldfish got there but it looks like they came from a fun fair where they were one of the prizes on offer at the stalls.'
