Where can I take the firearms safety class required for a LTC? What class LTC is needed for aux. police and Regular police, class A or B?

Go to your local department which is where you will apply for the LTC. Most departments will tell you places where you can take the course in your area.

In answer to your second question... class A

Local gunshops will have leads, some towns follow the "can't recommend" rule as codified in some MGL/CMR. They may have a list.
Also try http://www.goal.org
You want a Class A All lawful purposes, anything else might as well be worthless for law enforcement.

my question is should i pay the money for a training course so i can get a LTC or should i wait until i get in an academy? Is it easier this way?

1. I wanted a LTC and wasn't willing to wait for that dream job to come along.

2. When I applied for jobs that "require the ability to obtain a Class A LTC", I'm all set.

3. Don't some departments still require you to be licensed through the state?

true, here's my next problem. i need 2 letters of recommendation and they cannot be from a relative or a police officer. Who does that leave that is trustworthy enough to say im responsible enough to have a LTC?

Letters of recommendation or references? Don't you have any law abiding neighbors or friends that can "vouch" for you?

i think it was references, I do have law abiding friends and neighbors but I think the reference would be better coming from a police officer then a law abiding friend. I don't know, but I think that makes the most sense to me. Do they have to come from the town i am applying in? Belmont, MA?

I always tell people, get two reference from people that already have their LTC in your town if possible.

If that's not an option, get references from people that you know have an LTC or at least an FID.

Having a LTC is a great thing to have. After being certified by the MA State Police as a basic firearms safety instructor, I started teaching the certification course for LTC. As an instructor, it's a big responsibility, but as a LTC holder, it is imperative to learn as much as you can and be safe.
