PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - Police in Pittsfield said they have broken up a cocaine distribution ring, and the first six arrests may be just the tip of the iceberg.
Carolyn Falkowski and her son Derek were home last Friday when police swarmed the house next door, arresting suspects in a cocaine distribution ring. "I was very happy they [police] were here; I told them so. We just want to make sure the neighborhood is safe and clean and drug free" said Carolyn.
The raid, and another at 37 Springside Avenue, led to the arrest of six suspects. All are charged with trafficking in cocaine, among other charges. The top two are being held on $200,000 cash bail.
"It was a large-scale cocaine distribution ring centered in Pittsfield. The drugs came from outside the county, principally from the New York City area, and selling it in Pittsfield, but to buyers all over the county" said District Attorney David Capeless. DA Capeless said the cocaine was distributed throughout Berkshire County, from North Adams to Great Barrington.
The network of suppliers, dealers, and customers may all be tied together by the calling records of the cell phones of those arrested, which were tapped by police prior to the arrests, leading to the prospect of many more who may face charges. "We know who those people are, they know who they are, and we're going to be going out and getting them" said Capeless.
