Anyone here work for PPD or have any inside info? Just picked up an application today and plan on applying this week. Seems like it would be a very busy dept. from their crime stats and the pay seems to be pretty good.

Posted by: VSP Troop

My girlfriend practacly begged me not to apply there. She goes to college in the area and thinks its a "disgusting" city. I don't know too much about RI except that its expensive to live and people drive with minimal auto insurance. Starting pay seems good.

Posted by: Crvtte65

Someone I know works there on Mids. She seems to enjoy it. PM me with specific questions if you want

Posted by: police2000

Does Pawtucket PD have a website to get more information? When is the deadline to apply?

Posted by: usmc0351

i picked up my app a couple of days ago. the deadline for the applications must be filed is on November 22, 2004 by 3:30. Im not sure if there is a website, i have searched but still have not found one. let me know if you have better luck.

Posted by: police2000

I found something on the internet that had an annoucement for applications for "POLICE OFFICER CITY OF PAWTUCKET MERIT SYSTEM".......what does merit system mean? There are hiring full time officers, correct? thanks

Posted by: Irishpride

Pawtucket Posting

RI Civil Service has nothing to do with hiring municipal PO's or FF's, each city/town has their own way of establishing a list to hire off , Pawtucket call theirs the Merit System.

Posted by: jyanis

What is the salary scale?? Do you have to move to Pawtucket, or is a boardering town ok. I live on the southern Mass boarder, and am about 30 minutes from Pawtucket...don't want to move again...LOL.

I mean border...LOL

Posted by: usmc0351

says on the packet i got with the app that the pay after 6 months probationary period is $45,949. as for if you or i would have to move there if we got on i am not sure. it just says you have to be a u.s. citizen and have a valid drivers license.

Posted by: police2000

anyone know a website to go to to check out pawtucket's crime stats?

Posted by: VSP Troop

http://www.areaconnect.com/

They are a very busy PD. Everyone i talk to who lives around there says its the worst city in RI. Wouldn't be a boring job, thats for sure.

Posted by: VSP Troop

I just dropped off my application today. Anyone else get pestered by the black dude for spare change on the first floor? I told him my birthday is next month and asked what he has for me...

Posted by: evidence

Im heading down last minute on Monday to pick up app., fill it out, and turn it in. I noticed it said "no phone calls" so I was wondering if anyone knows if PPD needs copies of college transcripts, high school diploma, or anything else with app. I will be traveling from North Shore Mass. so I will not have time to travel back to pick up need documents. Any help is appreciated.

Posted by: police2000

you need a copy of your license, high school diploma, and college diploma or proof that you were in the military

Any one going to take the PT test on the 4th?

Posted by: mikev

I'll be there, probably wont pass haha if anyone has taken this test or any PTs please let me know, this will be my first and i have a lot of questions- my AIM is sublimemjv or email is sublimemikev@aol.com. thanks

Posted by: darkknight750il

PATs aren't that bad...goes by your age group but generally...1.5 mile run 12:30-13min, 35 push ups, 35 sit-ups. When you are training doing sit-up make sure you do the proper form which is to grab you ears with you hands while doing them, makes it a little bit harder.

Posted by: VSP Troop

I'll be there on the 4th

To those of you who are taking this test tommorrow... make sure you get that yellow waiver for notarized. It says it must be notarized on the letter but not on the form itself. I almost didn't pick up on it...

Posted by: mikev

thanks for the notice that would have been bad. Im worried about tomorrow- i still cant touch my toes... This will be my first pat so if anyone has any advice that you think would help it would be much appreciated. thanks again

Posted by: VSP Troop

The sit and reach is VERY easy. I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of people fail on the other stuff.. benchpress, situp/ push up, and 1.5 mile run. Which of these are you concerned with? My advice:

1) Benchpress- You should be able to press at least your body weight for one rep. If its a barbell, you want a grip a little wider than shoulder width, feet planted flat on the floor, and exhale as you press the weight.

2) Sit ups- PRACTICE!- They will be very strict on form. Steer clear of the krispy kremes...

3) Push Up- Again, PRACTICE! Form is very important. Legs fully extended, feet only a couple inches apart, all the way down to the floor, all the way up. Tilt your head up slightly and look ahead of you. Focus on breathing... inhale on the way down, exhale goin up.

4) Run- Hopefully you have been practicing. Everyone running with you will provide motivation.

Posted by: mikev

thanks very much for the advice, i am pretty well set on all of that. Ive been working like a dog on all of those. I really cant touch my toes though, think that they would fail me because i cant touch my toes? I have really long legs and short arms...

Posted by: VSP Troop

How'd you do on the test Mike? I never even made it there... Mapquest and Yahoo said the road it was on didn't exist and the Campus police to CCRI gave me TERRIBLE directions! But, i realized how much I hate the state of RI and they have a serious lack of signs and an excess of traffic. By the time i found it, it was like exactly 1300 and i said screw it.. it just wasn't meant to be. Hope everything went well for you tho.

Posted by: Anonymous

i passed! now on to the written, thanks again for the advice, sorry you couldnt make it.

Posted by: VSP Troop

Good job! I'm glad i didn't make it... i hate Rhode Island, expecially pawtucket!

Posted by: rubble16

If you speak like you spell then that would explain why you didn't get on.

Posted by: GD

If there having a test, there looking to put someone into the next academy. Words of advice, small depts in RI are getting 25 applicants. Apply for town depts you will definitely have a good chance especially if you are educated.

Why bother, you'll probably get passed over again.... just resign yourself to the fact that you are a hospital security guard and make the best of it.

Posted by: jd526

very good department - but my opinion is biased as i work there
no you dont have to move there
approximately 154 cops in 8 square miles
check epodunk.org for demographic info on this municipality or any other one that you might be interested in.

any specific questions I will respond to

to VSP check with either fo the trooper(s) McGarry of the RISP. both worked here for a short period before they left for the RISP - one had been a trooper in NH for a cple of years befor that
