I am thinking of either joining the air force or coast guard after high school, i know enough about sf in the air force, but i have some questions about the coast guard
1. What rating would I join as, so I could work in port security/law enforcment?
2. The ratings seem broad, is there a chance i'd be doing something other then le if I took that rating?
3. What should I exepect to be doing from day to day if i was doing port security?
4. What is the housing situacion like with th coast guard?
- Keep in mind that i want to go active duty, not reserve

I served on both active and reserve duty in the Coast Guard. I know that port security is a reserve only rating and that you would need to choose a different rating for active duty. No matter what rating you choose you can get involved in le as a boarding team member. On my ship the boarding teams consisted of members of all different ratings and non rates. If you go active duty chances are you will go to a ship for your first duty assignment. Shoot me pm if you need more info.
