WASHINGTON Last year proved to be a tough one for the nation's police officers.
The F-B-I says a check of more than ten-thousand agencies around the country shows 132 police officers died in the line of duty in 2003 -- including 45 who were slain by a gun. The overall figure was eight more than 2002.
The F-B-I report showed that 49 officers were killed in traffic accidents.
Authorities arrested 38 suspects in the killings. Fourteen others were killed by police and six others took their own lives.
Breaking down the report further, the F-B-I says about half of the officers' deaths occurred as they either were making traffic stops or arrests. Ten were slain while investigating disturbance calls, and nine were ambushed.

I hate to say it but diet, stress and lack of exercise is the number one cause of police dying on the job "Heart Attacks" tops the list killing thousands of police officers every year. Average age of a police officer 59!! You can run but you can not hide!!!!!
